Big Block Cylinder Heads Oval or Rectangular port?

(454) 496ci
What is better for a superchaged (procharger) big block w/12 to 17 psi.
Not for serious racing, just want the most Horsepower

Aluminum Heads:

Oval port 270cc / 119cc or
Rectangular port 320cc / 119cc

Please help!

I own a shop, a drag car & truck. What you are looking for is the best flowing heads that handle the larger numbers on the runners. The best place to get the skinny on this would be
www.chevyhiperformanc.com
and do a search on the heads. You will be able to see almost every head made on there, along with the numbers they make. Sometimes you can find some that make just a little less horsepower, but make larger numbers on the torque end. Torque is what moves the vehicle. The rectangular port heads make more torque due in part to the big numbers on the intake runners. It is a no brainer when it comes to boost that more cc's on the intake will mean more power due to volume. When applying boost, one does this to cram all the (volume) air down the engine you can without blowing the heads off the engine. 12-17 lbs. of boost isn't that much, but when one looks at the volume of the runners, bigger is better.
I suspect you wouln't see much difference on the low end, and the smaller runners may even be a little stronger on the low end, but the larger ones will shine about 3/4 track. I have always believed in big power at the top side, due in part to traction being the problem anyway.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!
